The same old school, same classes, same people, same town. This is exactly why I want to be in a band. It’s just a stupid teenage dream, I mean I’m just in my bedroom practicing covers with my best friend.
“Alex!” I pivot on my heels to see Jack running down the hallway at me with a huge grin on his face. God he’s so fucking cute. I remember meeting Jack in eighth grade and when he told me he liked Blink I couldn’t keep my eyes off of him. I know it’s weird. No matter how much I hate it I find myself attracted to Jack. He is what made me admit that I’m gay. I guess I always knew I was different, I always would talk about the cute boys with girls in my elementary school classes with the girls. I dated girls, my first kiss was a girl but it was always fake I guess.
“What?” I laugh and hold a hand out to him, which he grabs quickly and pulls me into a bro-hug.
“I’m bringing a friend over tonight to practice. Be nice we might have a drummer.” Jack grabs my shoulder and pushes off of me, “I got to run to first period. I’ll text you his number. Name’s Rian.” I watch him run off to class surprised by the whole encounter. I can’t believe he’s serious about this whole band thing.
My school is extremely un-accepting. I heard about a senior guy who came out of the closet. Apparently people gave him so much shit he had to transfer schools.
Slowly I make my way to my boring first period class, I hate to say it but tenth grade sucks major balls. Not in the way I want it to either. Every day is the same thing. Every class is just a string of information that I’ll probably never use in my sick pathetic gay life.

I relax and lean my head back closing my eyes thinking up possible song ideas. I’ve been writing some stuff. I don’t know how good it will be, probably shit but if I write it out maybe Jack can help me edit it out.

“Alexander please put the phone away or I’ll be forced to take it for the rest of the day.”

I lay on my couch with my eyes locked on the ceiling. Jack was supposed to be over here with his friend soon. Apparently he has a class with him so he goes to our school.
“Alex! I’m going to order a pizza for you and your friends then I’m going to go to the neighbors for dinner! Money is on the counter!” My mother shouts from the kitchen. Her and the neighbor lady seem to both have a weird connection. I don’t understand it. I think the lady is German so maybe she has European roots?
“HEY DOUCHE LET ME IN!” For some reason a weight feels lifted off of my stomach when I hear Jacks voice from right outside the front door. I hop up to my feet and walk over to open the door. Jack stands next to a boy with long shaggy hair and a hard jaw. Thick eyebrows too. I think we might have a band name.
“Hey what’s up.” I hold my hand up in an awkward wave to Rian who smiles and holds up a hand in return, a pair of drumsticks are tucked in between his fingers. “Come on in. My mom ordered us pizza.”
“Sweet.” Jack grins and pushes his way in past me. Rian follows him still quiet for some reason.
“So what can you do?” I smile at the boy who shrugs in response,
“I know a few blink-182 songs. Rollercoster, things like that. But if you give me a beat I can probably figure it out.”
“Awesome.” I smile at him, “Come on then lets show you what Jack and I can do.” I laugh trying to break the ice. Rian smiles showing me his pearly white teeth. Shit. He’s kinda cute.
