A Little Bit Chilly

Three

My eyes flickered open.

I wasn't sure what time it was, or exactly how long I'd been asleep. But when I woke, I felt alert. It wasn't often I was alert the moment my eyes opened.

I reached my arm out to the side, my fingers grazing the wall of the bus. I let my arm drop into the crack between the bunk and the side, where my phone was stationed.

I wrapped my fingers around it and lifted it into the air, the time reading 3:38 AM. It felt like noon.

I dropped it again, and turned over to my side. I pulled the blankets up to my head and closed my eyes tight, but sleep came unsuccessfully.

I rolled out of my bunk onto the floor. I could hear Jack's snores grow louder as I neared his bunk. I sat up, and pulled myself to my feet. That was a typical wake up for me; rolling onto the floor and standing up hastily like a drunk. I always stood up too fast -- my eyes would go dark for a moment, and I'd lose my balance. It was routine.

I stumbled down the bunk hall towards the kitchen. Our bus was nicer than most, and we were priveleged. I loved the feel of having a home on the road, instead of a messy, smelly van or a cheap, falling apart bus. This was one perfect.

I opened the fridge. There was nothing more than junky foods in it, foods that clogged your veins and stopped your heart.

My favorite.

I pulled out a tub of ice cream from the freezer, tugged a bag of classic chips from the pantry, and began outside.

It was, obviously, still dark outside. But it was that comfortable warm outside, where it's right inbetween hot and cold. The weather you can sit in shorts and no shirt and not feel the slightest bit cold or sweaty.

I was in sweatpants and a sweatshirt. I was at a lovely toasty level of heat. I sat on the ground, my back pressed agaisnt one of the bus tires. The ground was grass, which was dewey.

There were the sounds of people partying, already; it was only a few days into the tour, and people were already on the party scene.

It didn't suprise me. Warped was pegged as one of the biggest party tours ever.

I opened the tub of ice cream and bag of chips. I crumbled a handful of the salty potatoes and sprinkled them over the top of the vanilla dairy goodness, and dug in with hands. Spoons were for squares.

I heard a girl laughing not too far off, and I turned my head to the right.

A shorter, brunette girl was running across the grass with a shirtless guy, his body filled with tattoos. They sprinted past me, without a single glance in my direction.

I shrugged and kept right on eating.
