Secrets and Lies

Chapter Forty Four

-Jack's POV-

*one week later*

Alex and I were back home as of a few days ago, Kellin and Katelynn now have a beautiful baby girl named Copeland. It was great to finally be sleeping in my own bed again and not having to look after 10 dogs...not that I was really doing that anyway, Alex took care of them most of the time, I had no idea he was such a big animal fan. It was really cute and kept him busy whilst I rested from the incident with Alex's dad, who has now disowned him...whenever he brought into conversation, Alex doesn't refer to him as his father, but instead calls him by his first name, Peter. It's really odd to hear that but I understand how hurt Alex must be emotionally right now, and luckily he only ended up with a bruise on his right cheek, whereas I had a busted nose, my lip had been split open and I felt a few of my ribs were bruised too. Alex had insisted that I go to the hospital to get checked out, but I let him know that sleep and time was all I needed to get back to normal again.

Alex had been so good to me this past week, he brought me up breakfast in bed - the famous Gaskarth pancakes, a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and a coffee afterwards. In the first few days he had to help me with basic things such as dressing myself and washing, my body was still too weak to do any of that on my own, but he was more than happy to help, not like he hadn't seen it all before, and heck, we're getting married so he'll have to get used to it.

I was currently led in our bed, the flat screen TV hanging on the wall above the foot of it and Jerry Springer was playing; don't judge me, it's a Sunday there's nothing else on, and I don't mind watching chicks beating the hell out of one another over a pathetic guy, it's actually quite amusing. Alex was just finishing up in the shower right about now and as he stepped through the door with a blue towel wrapped around his waist, he saw me wince slightly as I accidentally moved in the wrong position trying to get up and out of bed. He came rushing over, shushed me and laid me back down again softly. "If you're still in pain, you should stay in bed, baby." He mused as he climbed in next to me, his still wet hair soaking the pillow
"I'm fine Lex, honestly, I just moved too quick, tha's all."

He propped himself up on one elbow and cupped my jaw with his free hand and began tracing his thumb over my minor injuries, eyes focusing on each one and quickly kissing my forehead.

"I still can't believe he did that to you," he sighed, brushing hair away from my face. "You didn't do anything wrong.."

"And neither did you!" I interjected. Alex rolled his eyes and laid flat on his back, looking up at the plain white ceiling above us. "Oi, listen here you lil shit," I laughed, slowly turning to face him. "If a few cuts and scratches is what it takes to keep you forever, I would do it, over and over till I'm black and blue, you're worth any amount of pain," I admitted, gradually leaning down until I was centimeters away from his face, I closed the remaining distance between us and kissed him softly, taking his bottom lip between my own. I pulled away and looked into his eyes. "I love you Alex, forever and always, promise."

He stared back at me, a grin etched on to his face. "Still feel bad." He pouted, sticking his tongue out and earning a small laugh from me.

"It's fine, I'm over it." I smiled.

"I'm not." He huffed, still smirking.

"You're impossible, you know that?"

"You love it." He winked.

Alex had been sulking all day, moping around the house and still believing this was all his fault, no matter how many times I told him otherwise; I wracked my brain for a way to cheer him up and make him my happy little Lex again, and after a while, I had a perfect plan - I just had to make a few phone calls.

I got changed from my sweats and baggy tee into something I was able to wear outside that didn't make me look like a homeless person, so I settled for my black leather jacket, beige v-neck tee with black skinny jeans accompanied by my grey dunks. Perfect.
I grabbed my wallet from the kitchen side and checked the time, the clock read 6:57 meaning Alex's first surprise should be here any moment now. I looked over at him sprawled on the couch, led at an angle, one leg hitched up on the arm rest and intently staring at the screen in front of him.

"Comfy are we?" I chuckled, walking towards him and perching on the arm that his leg was rested on. I saw the corner of his mouth curl upwards into a smile as he turned to face me, but his expression turned to confusion as he looked me up and down.

"Where're you off to?" He spoke quietly, answering my question with a question. He sat upright in the seat and straightened out his clothes

"No where," I told him. "Not yet anyway." I smiled.

Alex cocked an eyebrow as if to tell me to elaborate, he opened his mouth about to speak when there was a knock at the door. "Who'd you invite over?" He asked, sulking. I could tell he was getting grumpy so I just smiled.

"That would be my 'Cheer Alex Up plan, part one." I beamed as I walked to the door and answered it, looking into my best friends eyes and smiling, handing him a few notes from my back pocket as he gave me Alex's gift. I nodded a quick thank you to him as he didn't have time to come in.

I heard Alex call out from the lounge asking who it was yet again, and when I sauntered in with his gift, I don't think I'd see seen him look so shocked. "ERIN!" The small puppy bound over to him, he crouched down and petted her, she licked his hands, his arms and yapped away, obviously happy to see him too. "What's she doing here?" He asked cheerily, not taking his eyes off of her.

"Well, she does live here, she's yours." I replied casually, taking a seat on the couch.

Alex whipped his head and stared at me, dumbfounded. "Wait, what?!"

"Surprise!"

About an hour later Alex was over the initial shock of my gesture and we had called Rian and Cass over for a while as Alex wanted to show Erin off to the world. Cass was just about excited as he was, they played fetch with her in our small backyard before we decided to take her out for a proper walk; there was a forest not too far from our house so we decided to take her there. During our time in the woods, I got to know Alex's friends better, and it was great that we got along so well, especially seeing as Alex got along with my friends, we were all one big happy musical family. Rian told us that he was more than happy to look after Erin whilst we were on tour or in LA, so that saves the hassle of looking for a dog sitter.

After we got home, we sat around the dinner table having ordered Chinese take out. I was seated next to Cass, with Rian and Alex opposite, we had a bottle of white wine open because it was just one of those days where wine was a great choice. We all made small talk about music, the Ravens, movies, you name it. One thing I didn't expect to be brought up, emerged sooner than I thought possible, especially with what happened last week. It was something Alex said after we told the pair all about our visit to Isobel and Peter; he practically whispered it, but it rang through my ears and made my mind race.

"I want to go public."

I refuse to remember reading the last chapter. NO NO NO JACK LIVED AND THEY GOT MARRIED. JACK LIVED AND THE WEDDING WAS BEAUTIFUL AND WENT ACCORDING TO PLAN. IT WAS BETTER THAN THEY IMAGINED IT EVER WOULD BE.
(Okay but to comment about something else and avoid my feels) This was very beautifully written. You are a fabulous writer and I hope that one day you publish books and become ridiculously famous. Like world wide famous. People from Canada, US, Russia... just everywhere, THE WORLD SHALL KNOW YOUR NAME AND WORSHIP YOU.
Sorry, got a little carried away there. Hahaha! But yeah, I love your writing and I wanted you to know. ^-^
