The Trial
Alex POV
Jack stopped at my house the night before the trial. I was sort of freaking out about the trail tomorrow, but I wouldn’t let it show. I, Jack and Tom went to bed early that night. It was 11pm when I heard shouting and screaming coming from Tom’s room. I grabbed my guitar and ran to Tom’s room. “What’s up Tom?” I asked, although I guessed he would have had another nightmare. The one where he was back in the accident.
“Alex, I had the nightmare again. It’s awful”
“I know” He had been having these nightmares since he woke up in hospital. It was awful seeing my older brother in this state and knowing there was nothing I could do to help him. I started playing guitar that was soothing him. He eventually went back to sleeping and I crept back into my room and back into bed with Jack and fell asleep.
“Rise and shine sleepy heads, time to wake up and get ready.” My mum called. Today was the day of the trail. I could tell that Tom and Jack were frightened. We got dressed into our suits .Mum drove us to the court we were told to wait in a little room until we were called.
“First of all I would like to call Mr Thomas Gaskarth to the stand” Tom walked out of the little room and into the huge court room. We heard Tom tell the jury what happened the night of the accident. Next was Jack. Then it was my turn. “I would like to call Mr Alexander William Gaskarth to the stand” I walked out of the little room and into the full court room. I was terrified “Right Alexander I need you to swear on the bible and then tell me the events on the night of 4th May 2011”
“Tom my brother was driving me and Jack back from the school prom. We were driving back towards Brookside we came to the crossroads. The lights were on our side were on green and the lights on the other side were on red. When out of nowhere a lorry came towards us. I screamed Toms name but it was too late to do anything it had already hit us. It all went black and I woke up in hospital” I told the jury.
“Okay thank you Alexander” I then went back to the little room where Tom and Jack were waiting for me. Now all we had to do was await the verdict. It took what seemed like hours for the jury to decide the verdict they called us back into the court room. “What verdict has the jury come to” The Judge asked. One man who seemed to be the spokesman for them stood up.
“We have found Mark Hoppus not guilty of attempted murder on the night of 4th May 2011.”
