Alex loves his daughter, but sometimes it's just too hard for him to handle her alone. Still unable to fully deal with the death of his wife, and the mother of his daughter, after a year, sometimes just the site of Jessie causes Alex to cry, longing his late wife. Jessie looks more like Shannon than he does Alex, which doesn't help Alex any. The new neighbor moving in next door seems like a blessing to Alex as Jessie loves hanging out with the man. It gives Alex a break, and Jessie a semi-proper mother-like figure in her life.
